Market in trouble for two wheels: -1.8% in June

In June, the two-wheeler market in Italy recorded a -1.8% for motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, with 40,871 vehicles sold. Scooters, now in negative territory since February, lost 6.7% and registered 21,144 vehicles; motorbikes show a 3% decline and put 16,124 vehicles on the road; in contrast to the trend, mopeds, also supported by the electricity market, which recorded a nice + 53.1%, equal to 3,603 vehicles.

Although “the market today does not express its full potential”, observes Paolo Magri, president of Confindustria Ancma, the national association of cycle, motorcycle and accessories, “the demand for two wheels in Italy is substantial and we strongly ask the government to support it for the near future “, first of all” directing all the allocations for incentives only on the electric “and” correcting the provisions of the Competition bill on policies out of agreement between insurers for direct compensation (Card) for motorcycles “which, for the association, “paradoxically would limit competition and increase the cost of insuring a vehicle.”

In the first six months of the year the market stopped at – 2% compared to the first half of 2021. A minus sign only for scooters, which lost 10.9%, equal to 82,021 vehicles registered. On the other hand, the performance of the motorcycles was good, with 79,162 vehicles on the plate and growing by 6.1%. The performance of mopeds remains excellent, with a growth of 19.8% and 11,643 vehicles sold. Electricity is flying in June, driven by some orders and by the effect of incentives: growth is 152.3%, equal to 3,561 vehicles registered. The cumulative is close to doubling compared to the same period of 2021, which records an increase of 82.2% and 9,171 vehicles sold.
