The Maserati Mc20 Cielo, the open version of the super sports car of the Trident, arrives to coincide with the summer. The new model brings back to the Maserati range both a model with an open-air cockpit after the GranCabrio’s exit and an open-top model with a targa body and rear engine years after the Mc12 hypercar. The Cielo brings specific technologies to the scene, in particular the original retractable pavilion in electrochromic glass and innovations also destined for the My2023 of the consanguinea. To which it remains linked with the mechanics hidden under the line designed by the Maserati Style Center in Turin and aerodynamically defined in the wind tunnel, as well as with the development of the project and production in Modena.

In fact, through a touch control that activates an electrical solicitation, the transparency of the glass can be changed in an instant, making it completely opaque.

When the roof covers the cockpit the silhouette of the Cielo is not very different from that of the other Mc20, even if the rear part of the car has been extensively redesigned. The changes do not affect the dimensions, as the length of 4.67 meters and the width of 1.97 meters are the same as the Coupé while the height rises only slightly to 1.22 meters. The Cielo always has butterfly doors like the Coupé, but behind which there is a completely redesigned tail. The new side B fits into the Mc20 features respecting the meeting between form and function to reward aerodynamic efficiency, heat flow management and dynamism. But that’s not all, because the design of the engine cover is also different in which the fins that shape the profile of the car along the lines of that of the Coupé stand out and which are also safety roll bars. Between the fins there is a descending glass: when the car is open it becomes an electrically adjustable wind-stop that protects the passenger compartment from air vortexes, while when the roof is raised it acts as a rear window and possibly as a third window, as it can be partially lowered. The hood of the Cielo is devoid of the “window” that on the Coupé shows the mighty engine of the Neptune series, because the cover is whole to conceal the housing of the roof.

The presentation and interior layout of the Cielo are modeled on those of the Coupé. The MC20 Cielo has five driving modes marked by a specific color: green for wet, blue for gt, red for sport, yellow for racing and orange for Esc off.
