And that meant: You don’t buy, you sell?
We were automatically at the point where we needed to partner with someone with sufficient economies of scale. We outlined the framework for the Carrier Group and said where it should go strategically: We want investments to be made in Germany and Europe in order to grow. And they looked at us with shining eyes and said: That’s obvious! Above all, Carrier sees opportunities in Europe and the social security of employees. In this respect, my heart is a little warmer with my partner.

Why were there tears? What struck you at that moment? Was it the feeling of a turning point, the scope of the decision?
I grew up in this company and this region. It’s all very close to me. When I was a kid, I used to follow my father through production on the weekends on a skateboard. I spent a lot of time in the training workshop. That is my life! And it is above all my father’s life’s work. It hurts, it’s bitter.
