Meta will pull news from Facebook and Instagram in Canada

Meta announced it will shut down access to news on Facebook and Instagram in Canada after the country’s federal government passed the Online News Act, or Bill C-18, a law that forces tech companies to pay taxes on content to national media.

The move follows a similar law passed last year in Australia that requires digital platforms like Facebook and Google to pay national media outlets when they link to their content in searches or feeds.
