Microsoft’s Copilot AI Generates 5 Billion Chat Sessions in its First Year

Microsoft’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Copilot, has seen massive success in its first year since being launched to the public. According to the company, Copilot has generated 5 billion chat sessions, with approximately 70% of them being used for information searches.

One of the latest improvements to Copilot is its image creation tool, which has recently come under scrutiny. The Designer AI service, a part of Copilot, was used to create an explicit image of Taylor Swift that went viral. However, Microsoft has announced that the image generation capabilities of Copilot have been updated to include features like background blurring, object highlighting, and the addition of effects like pixel art.

Corporate Vice President, Yusuf Mehdi, stated that while the Copilot brand has expanded to many services, end users will only see one version of Copilot. However, users can access a premium version called Copilot for Microsoft 365, which offers additional features for a subscription fee.

Another upcoming improvement to Copilot is its integration with Windows desktop, allowing PC users to run large language models natively on their systems, particularly those equipped with AI-based NPUs. Mehdi also emphasized that artificial intelligence will enable users to harness more functionalities on personal computers than ever before.

Looking ahead, Microsoft is expected to continue rolling out more Copilot and other generative AI features in the future. Mehdi expressed confidence in the potential of AI, stating, “It sounds cliché, but I think AI is going to unleash quite a profound impact in terms of people’s ability to do amazing things with computers.”
