Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel remarked that the effectiveness of Covid-19 boosters will likely decline over time and some people may need a fourth dose by the fall. Bancel said the effectiveness of the boosters will likely decrease over the course of several months, similar to what happened with the first two doses. “I believe we will need boosters in the fall of 2022 and onward,” Bancel said, adding that older people or people with previous health conditions may need annual boosters for years to come. Moderna’s CEO, speaking yesterday at a conference organized by Goldman Sachs, also said he would be “surprised” when the data arrives in the coming weeks if it emerges that they “hold up well over time”, referring to the strength of the booster boosters.
