The Monopoli terminal was built as part of the community project Themis, funded by Interreg VA Greece-Italy 2014-2020 territorial cooperation program, with the intent – reads a note – to support the development of minor ports in order to develop their activities by directing maritime traffic, in particular cruises, towards territories that are still little used for tourism. Therefore, under the common brand Themis, synergies have been created between luxury cruises and the offer of tourist packages and selected itineraries, intended as exclusive experiences. The aim is also to promote attractiveness towards nautical circuits and maxi yachts.

As the president of the Southern Adriatic Port Authority explained, Hugo Patron Griffi «the port of Monopoli has a welcoming structure for cruise passengers with a dynamic interface with the territory. Thanks to the Themis project, Monopoli now amplifies its appeal and this will allow us to implement further promotion strategies to attract new companies ». Windstar will arrive from 17 September.
