The 2023 National Economic and Social Development Statistical Bulletin was released by the National Bureau of Statistics on February 29th, revealing impressive economic growth and progress in various sectors. Despite facing internal and external pressures, China’s economy managed to achieve a 5.2% growth in GDP, exceeding 126 trillion yuan.
The bulletin highlighted the creation of 12.44 million new urban jobs, the establishment of 32.73 million new business entities, and a total import and export of goods amounting to 41.8 trillion yuan. These achievements demonstrate the resilience and potential of China’s economy in the face of challenges.
In addition to economic growth, advancements were made in technological innovation, green and low-carbon transformation, and social welfare. Investments in manufacturing technological transformation increased, while clean energy consumption rose to 26.4% of total energy consumption. The per capita disposable income of residents also saw a 6.1% increase.
Looking ahead, Sheng Laiyun, deputy director of the National Bureau of Statistics, emphasized the importance of promoting high-quality development in the coming years. By focusing on technological innovation, expanding domestic demand, and deepening reforms, China aims to further strengthen its economy and continue on the path of progress.
