PACCAR Unveils Next Generation of Heavy Vehicles at CES 2024

Truck manufacturer PACCAR is showcasing its latest lineup of heavy vehicles with advanced and customer-centric technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. The annual event, held in Las Vegas, started on Tuesday, January 9 and will run until Friday the 12th. The PACCAR truck exhibition is located at booth 3501 in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

John Rich, senior vice president and chief technology officer of PACCAR, expressed the company’s commitment to developing important technologies in the transportation industry. These technologies include electric trucks, battery and fuel cell hydrogen options for the transportation industry, to help customers operate with the lowest emissions and exceptional efficiency. Rich stated, “We are investing in multiple zero-emission technologies to provide the right transportation solutions for our customers.”

Highlights of the exhibit include a hydrogen fuel cell electric truck (FCEV) T680 by Kenworth, the SuperTruck II by Peterbilt, an XD battery electric truck by DAF, and electric vehicle charging solutions by PACCAR Parts.

PACCAR has been strategically partnering with Toyota Motor North America, Inc. to develop and commercialize hydrogen fuel cell technology for the Kenworth T680 and Peterbilt Model 579 Class 8 trucks. The propulsion system recently received certification for Zero Emission Powertrain from the California Air Resources Board.

Notably, the Kenworth T680 FCEV and the Peterbilt Model 579 powered by hydrogen fuel cell offer zero-emission heavy-duty operations with a range of up to 450 miles, weighing up to 82,000 pounds and with refueling times consistent with traditional diesel trucks. PACCAR has already received more than 150 confirmed orders for these FCEVs, and customer deliveries will begin in 2025.

The Peterbilt SuperTruck II, developed as part of a program from the US Department of Energy to improve the efficiency of freight transportation, has an advanced diesel engine, a hybrid powertrain with electrified motor, and improved aerodynamics.

In addition to these displays, PACCAR Parts will showcase available DC fast chargers for electric vehicles by Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF. PACCAR’s EV charger portfolio strategically covers the entire range of PACCAR EVs.

Rich emphasized PACCAR’s industry-leading portfolio of zero-emission vehicles and technologies, stating, “PACCAR offers more than a century of heavy vehicle innovation to support customers’ operational and environmental goals.”

PACCAR is recognized as a global technology leader in the design, manufacturing, and customer service of high-quality light, medium, and heavy trucks under the brands Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF. The company also designs and manufactures advanced propulsion systems, provides financial services and information technology, and distributes truck parts related to its core business.
