Peugeot 9×8: the new generation of hybrid endurance cars

by admin

Hybrid and with unprecedented aerodynamics. Peugeot unveils the prototype of the Hypercar 9X8, its new generation racing car that will debut in the FIA Endurance World Championship (WEC) in 2022. Hyper-efficient, powered by a hybrid powertrain and equipped with all-wheel drive and a pawn that marks the entering a new era of motor racing, with its totally fluid lines, without a rear wing, and with a strong brand identity.

From the history of the Lion brand

Peugeot 9X8, the new car of the Lion brand that will race in the Endurance championship, carries on a consolidated tradition of the brand in this discipline: from the Peugeot 905 and 908, winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans respectively in 1992 and 1993, and in 2009.

With the 9X8, the Lion brand realizes a true brand project around the concept of Neo-Performance, which combines maximum sportiness, technological know-how transferable to production models, efficiency and design excellence.

The close collaboration, probably unprecedented in the world of motor sport, between the design and engineering teams was decisive in exploring new aerodynamic and stylistic solutions and in defining an absolutely original line.

New approach given by the regulation

The joint work of designers and engineers was suggested by the new regulation for the Le Mans Hypercar (Lmh) category, introduced by the FIA and the Aco (Automobile Club de l’Ouest), which takes over from the premier Lmp1 category. The regulation offers more freedom in the treatment of aerodynamic surfaces and encourages a radically new reflection and the design of innovative cars, more open to the inventiveness of the design teams.
