Porsche Taycan GTS, this is how the new electric wagon from Zuffenhausen goes and how it is made

The GTS badge advances Porsche’s electrification. In fact, at the moment, it brings to the scene the third body variant of the Taycan, albeit not entirely new, and a new version of the four-door, which is placed between the 4S and the Turbo. With these innovations, the Taycan range comes to offer eleven versions to be deployed against the most powerful electric in circulation: from those of the other German premium brands to that of Tesla, up to those of the Korean Ioniq5 and Kia Ev6.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS, but haven’t we already met?

The new Sport Turismo is basically the Taycan that makes up the station wagon. This new format stems from the opposite procedure from the one that originates the allroads. In fact, the Sport Turismo is nothing more than a Cross Turismo deprived of off-road body protections with a lowered trim. Indeed, much lowered and with a specific calibration of the adaptive air suspension, as well as supplemented by 20 ”wheels. Those of the new GTS series are black, a shade that is also taken up by some external details and repeated in the passenger compartment. As on the outside, inside there is also an air of family in the sense that the furniture and finish are those of the other Taycans, on a par with the size of the environment that mirrors that of the raised version. Therefore, compared to the sedan, the Sport Turismo offers a more functional and comfortable rear area, thanks to the horizontal layout of the pavilion which facilitates accessibility and greater availability of height space for passengers. Similarly to the Taycan from which the wagon is also derived, or if we want almost a wagon, it does not offer much higher base load possibilities than the non-exceptional ones of the sedan. In fact, the minimum boot capacity goes from 47 to 446 liters, so you can count on more combinations and more load capacity (up to 1,200 liters) only when you can fold the rear seat. Then there is a well inside the 84-liter front hood, useful mostly for charging cables.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS, known and new ingredients

If the Sport Turismo stems from an already defined project, the same can be said of the GTS powertrain which develops 517 horsepower but which manages to deliver 598 horsepower in overboost, together with a torque of 850 Nm. In fact, it is formed by the rear electric motor of the Turbo which works almost always and from the front one of the 4S, therefore forms a continuously variable all-wheel drive system and is combined with a gearbox that uses two ratios when the one on the rear axle works and one only for the front, which in practice works only with the most eco-friendly car configuration and the Normal. The electric heart drives the Taycan GTS up to 250 per hour self-limited and 100 per hour in 3 “7, it is powered by a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery with 800 V voltage that is recharged in 9 hours with alternating current at 11 kW, in direct current at 50 kW from 5 to 80% in an hour and a half and at 270 kW (and good luck to meet a similar system) in about twenty minutes. The Taycan GTS also makes its début of an evolution in the management of energy flows, which is also extended to the other versions, which contributes to determining a range of up to 490 kilometers for the Sport Turismo and up to 504 kilometers for the sedan.

Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo GTS, always instinctive to drive

These Taycans are not only distinguished from the others by their power and optimization of the electrical network, but also by their dynamism, regardless of the fact that they can also be equipped with the useful rear-wheel steering. In fact, despite the length of almost 5 meters and the mass of 2.3 tons, it is rigorous and very agile in the succession of curves, as well as confidential. A feature impressed both by the low center of gravity and the weight equally distributed on the two axles and by the speed with which the four-wheel drive distributes traction, assigning it totally to the rear, as well as by the suspension setting. In short, Sport Turismo behaves homogeneously and is kept at bay, in case of need, without nervous crises emerging. Ultimately, it feels less heavy and more compact than it actually is, and what’s more, it stays comfortable even when you squeeze it. The harmony between the demands of the accelerator and the responses of the propulsion system also contributes to the naturalness of driving, both in normal use and when the power and instant torque are exploited suddenly with the sportiest car configuration. In fact, the exact required “load” always reaches the wheels gradually. This is thanks to the correct electronic management, which optimizes not only the delivery but also the autonomy both with a more rational expenditure of energy and with a more determined recovery capacity in slowdowns than those of the other Taycans. In fact, we only used 15% of the electricity in the battery to travel 160 kilometers.

Porsche Taycan GTS, prices and equipment

The Taycan GTS sedan costs 137,000 euros, the Sport Turismo 138,000 euros. In both cases, the equipment also includes front sports seats with electric eighteen-way adjustment and an extensively connected infotainment system. In this regard, the GTS is the first Porsche to communicate with the Porsche Track Precision app, a sort of telemetry intended for diehards on the track. The GTS versions also make their debut with an optional panoramic roof that can go from transparent to opaque in nine steps, thanks to an electrically adjustable liquid crystal film.
