Regular employee employment stagnated in the first two months

by admin

ROME (ITALPRESS) – In the first two months of the year, regular employee employment stagnated overall: the balance between activated and completed positions remained roughly at the same levels as in 2020, immediately before the outbreak of the pandemic ( -65,000 in January, 55,000 in February). This is what emerges from the joint note of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and the Bank of Italy, on provisional data updated to 28 February. There were 707,000 terminations against 697,000 activations. At the end of the period from the start of the pandemic crisis (1 March 2020) to 28 February 2021, around 300,000 fewer jobs were created than in the previous twelve months. After the minimum point reached in mid-June (almost 600,000 fewer jobs), about half of the gap has therefore been made up. The pandemic has strongly slowed down the creation of permanent jobs: for this type of contract, the net activations accumulated over the twelve months, however, remained positive and equal to 259,000. This trend was affected by the blocking of layoffs and the dynamics of the transformations recorded at the end of last year, supported by the incentives introduced by the August Decree. Net creation of temporary jobs remained significantly below that recorded in the pre-pandemic period; at the end of February the cumulative change over the twelve months was equal to -230,000. The number of jobs in industry at the end of February was about 70,000 higher than a year earlier: the growth is almost exclusively attributable to the construction sector, against a substantial stagnation in manufacturing (-6,000 jobs) and in other industrial sectors. The decline recorded in private services is significantly larger, equal to more than 110,000 fewer jobs than a year earlier (-140,000 in the tourism sector alone). At the end of February, the jobs occupied by women were about 76,000 fewer than a year earlier. (ITALPRESS). ads / com 29-Mar-21 11:47 am
