Riso Scotti, agreement to exploit and export black rice

by admin

An agreement to enhance Venere rice on both domestic and foreign markets. It was signed by the Sardinian Piemontese Sementi Cooperative (Sa.pi.Se.), the founder and holder of the Venere patent based in Vercelli and activities in Oristano and Novara, and Riso Scotti Spa, companies engaged in the rice and derivatives sector.

Venere, black rice

At the center of this far-reaching agreement is Venere, the first aromatic black rice (traceable, based on certified compliance with the Uni En Iso 22005 standards and sustainable) created and patented in 1997 by the Coop’s Research and Development Center, which over the years has built a certified supply chain around this product “which regulates, controls and monitors its cultivation, processing, distribution and marketing through a specification”.

The agreement

At the base of the agreement between the two groups, an enhancement project which, as clarified by the Sardinian Piedmontese coop, “started in recent days with the visit that Dario Scotti, president and CEO of the Pavia company, carried out in the Oristano seed selection plant. From January 1, 2022, after a transition period that began on July 31, black rice will be sold only in the white and blue packages of Riso Scotti.

One brand

«The agreement with Riso Scotti is a great achievement for a young product like Venere – says Elisabetta Falchi, president of Sa.Pi.Se. -, for our cooperative and for the member companies in the provinces of Oristano, Vercelli and Novara. Scotti has seen the potential of this rice and has embraced the philosophy of maximum quality and complete consumer protection thanks to the production chain of Venere, traceable and certified with scrupulous attention: all the rice produced by the members of Sa.Pi.Se. according to strict regulations, it is selected and processed in a single plant and now it will reach consumers through the single Scotti brand “

The Sardinian Piedmontese coop

A further milestone for an agricultural cooperative founded in 1978 from the union of ten producers in the provinces of Oristano and Vercelli “to bridge the agricultural culture of two Italian regions by cultivating quality rice and selecting new seed varieties in one of the very first examples of the supply chain short “. Today the company, which in 2020 officially became the “first rice seed company in the world to obtain the FSA sustainable agriculture certificate”, is based in Vercelli, and is made up of 15 partners.
