Sachs: the European Green Deal is the approach you need

ROME. “Italy’s G20 leadership is an opportunity to redirect the world economy on the right path. We must act cooperatively, avoiding new conflicts to build the future we need ». This is the message of the “Sustainable Economy Forum”, the online forum on sustainability created today by San Patrignano and Confindustria, with the participation of the world-renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute of Columbia University, perhaps the most prestigious among the keynote speaker of this third edition of the Forum. «We must consider this pandemic crisis – he explained – as a clear message to companies, companies and governments. What we did up to Covid is not good, we have not protected ourselves, we have destabilized the natural environment, we have created growing inequality. In the post-covid era we will have to think about a true sustainable development, taking into account social inclusion and environmental sustainability as crucial elements ».

According to Sachs, “we need a collaborative and cooperative approach between countries towards a common vision of sustainable growth, guided by investments in the pillars of the European Green Deal, the approach that Europe has chosen to build a more sustainable society. There is a way of living – said Sachs – in a fair, inclusive way, based on equality: the European Green Deal is the approach we need. Europe has always better combined the desire for economic and environmental sustainability in a prosperous society ».

1500 people followed the online forum that Intesa Sanpaolo had as its institutional partner. Accenture, Eni, Gruppo 24 Ore and Hitachi Rail are top partners of the event; partner Acqua Alma, IGP Decaux and Lavazza.
