Spain to Europe: the next leaders’ summit in October requires a discussion on energy and the market

by admin

BRUSSELS. Discuss energy and the energy market at the next Leaders’ Summit in October. Spain wants to ask the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, to change the agenda to discuss a topic so dear to Italy and on which the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, has turned the spotlight, suggesting to replicate the buyer model only twelve stars for anti-Covid vaccines to other areas, including energy.

Juan Gonzalez Barba Pera, Minister of European Affairs of Spain, arrived in Brussels for the meeting of the General Affairs Council determined to “urge a European debate on the energy market to be included in the agenda of the summit”. The draft agenda calls for heads of state and government to discuss the pandemic and joint response to the health crisis, digital transformation strategy, and foreign policy on 21 and 22 October.

Spain therefore asks to add a fourth point “due to the increase in electricity prices” which are posing a problem for which, according to the Madrid minister, one cannot fail to work to find a solution. Gonzalez Barba Pera underlines that on this issue the objective is not to reach a solution immediately, “the important thing is to start the debate” in the European context, aware of the support of some delegations. He cites in particular the convergence with Mario Draghi, who “expressed himself positively”.
