Stellantis’ electric heart will beat in Mirafiori. The historic and renovated Turin plant will become a center of competence for the electrification of the group born from the merger between FCA and PSA. It is not just a question of making the electric 500: the Stellantis Turin Manufacturing District will have a single production process for different Maserati models, capable of integrating different platforms and propulsion systems. The new Maseratis will arrive between 2022 and 2024. These are the main innovations announced by the group in this afternoon’s meeting at the Ministry for Economic Development (Mise) with the trade unions and the government.
The current 500 full electric and the future generation with the full range of electric engines will always head in Turin.
According to what the unions have announced, the Stellantis activities of the former Bertone, now Agap, of Grugliasco will be moved to Mirafiori. At Grugliasco for now only the bodywork will remain and will be transferred at the end of the plan in 2024. All the employees of the former Bertone will be moved to Mirafiori and there will be no redundancies.
The employees of the former Bertone, which Sergio Marchionne’s FCA had taken over in 2009, are now about 1,100. In the Grugliasco factory, in the first belt of Turin, the Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte are produced. Production of the two models will be moved to Mirafiori where the Gran Cabrio and Gran Turismo will also be built.
