Lufthansa is on strike at five of Germany’s largest airports today.
Hundreds of flights are canceled, but travelers with connections within Germany can use their tickets to switch to the train.
The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings said it was not affected.
Lufthansa ground staff began a warning strike at five German airports on Wednesday morning. This is part of a tariff conflict. According to the airline, more than 100,000 passengers are expected to have to change their travel plans. A spokesman for Verdi said in Frankfurt that the willingness to strike was very high. The union assumes that Lufthansa will probably not be able to carry out the greatly reduced flight program as planned.
The Ver.Di union is demanding 12.5 percent more salaries for employees. But every employee should earn at least 500 euros more per month. There should also be an inflation bonus of 3,000 euros.

Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Hamburg airports will be affected by the strike until Thursday morning:
Frankfurt: 80 to 90 percent of the 600 planned Lufthansa and Air Dolomiti flights canceled.
München: Over half of the 730 flight movements were canceled; Lufthansa and partner airlines were mainly affected.
Berlin: All Lufthansa flights canceled, a total of 46 flight connections.
Düsseldorf: 14 of 15 planned connections to Munich/Frankfurt canceled, as well as arrivals.
Hamburg: All 23 planned Lufthansa departures canceled.
If flights within Germany are canceled, customers can switch their ticket to Deutsche Bahn. However, passengers whose flights were canceled should not come to the airport, Lufthansa warned. They can’t help you there.
“Due to the strike, the rebooking counters are unfortunately not staffed,” it said website the German airline. Free rebooking options are available via lufthansa.com, the customer app and the service center.
As a precautionary measure, the largest German airline canceled between 80 and 90 percent of its 1,000 planned flights for Wednesday. The important subsidiary Eurowings, which offers many connections beyond the two hubs, says it is not affected.
