Tax, from June 30th obligation: fines for those who do not comply. Also for professionals

Fines in sight for traders and professionals who from Thursday will not allow electronic payments via Pos. In fact, on June 30th the new rules foreseen by the latest Pnrr decree take effect, which for shopkeepers, artisans and professional firms no longer provide only the obligation to accept payments by card, but also the application of sanctions in the event of non-compliance with the law. The decree brought forward the entry into force of the fines by six months (several times foreseen but always postponed). For those who refuse electronic payment, there is an administrative penalty of 30 euros, increased by 4% of the value of the transaction for which acceptance has been refused. Good for Assoutenti the provision that introduces a fine from 30 June for merchants and professionals who do not accept payments by debit or credit cards. “All the measures introduced so far to encourage electronic payments have proved unsuccessful, precisely because they did not provide for any punitive measures for those who refused to accept cards or ATMs – explains the president Furio Truzzi – The usual Italian mess that could now be overcome from the introduction of sanctions against merchants and professionals. However, it should be emphasized that the costs associated with the POS borne by merchants are still high: it is necessary to completely eliminate the interchange fees and other heavy taxes required of merchants, because electronic payments cannot enrich the coffers of banks and companies that issue credit cards and weigh on the category of merchants ”, concludes Truzzi.
