Omoda 5, all the numbers. A medium-sized SUV 4,400 mm long arrives in Italy. It has particular shapes starting from the large front grille combined with the thin LED headlights. The build quality is not bad: the panels are well aligned and the gaskets fixed perfectly. Omoda 5 is the first model on sale in Italy from the Chinese giant Chery: it will arrive in the summer. Under the bonnet there is a 1,600 cc 145 hp petrol engine combined with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox for traction, while the suspension is McPherson struts at the front and Multilink at the rear.
It will be on sale at a price of less than 30 thousand euros
The Omoda 5 offers 18-inch alloy wheels, 5 airbags, adaptive cruise control, dark corner warning and 360-degree cameras as standard. There is no lack of dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a sunroof and heated seats. Inside, the dashboard is combined with a digital instrument panel, the steering wheel is adjustable in height and I don’t lack space in depth. It will be on sale at an interesting price, given that it should be less than 30 thousand euros.
The electric version is expected by the end of 2024
Aesthetically and mechanically different from the petrol Omoda 5, the electric one is also more aerodynamic thanks to the presence of a new front bumper with an almost completely closed front grille. The rear window has the same length as the thermal and recalls the world of coupés with a light band that joins the light clusters. The interior adds a double 24.6-inch curved screen. It will be equipped with a 204 hp engine powered by a 60 kWh battery for 430 km of autonomy. 11 kW are also accepted for charging.
The battery version with Qualcomm 8155 chip
The management of the car is provided thanks to the Qualcomm 8155 chip, one of the most recent in automotive technology which should guarantee unprecedented fluidity of system operation in Chinese-made cars, a fact that is very important given that ten completely different driving modes can be chosen from it. Chery has not yet announced the list prices of the battery-powered Omoda 5, but according to the Chinese brand’s forecasts they should be between 35,00 and 40,000 euros.
