Inflation in the USA is more persistent than expected. Consumer prices have recently risen much more slowly than they did a year ago. However, new figures from the US government show that price inflation in the USA has unexpectedly accelerated somewhat again. Consumer prices rose by 3.2 percent in February compared to the same month last year. Analysts on average had expected an unchanged rate of 3.1 percent. Fed policymakers continue to expect an inflation rate of 2.4 percent this year, central bank data showed on Wednesday. The Fed expects an inflation rate of 2.2 percent next year. Core inflation, i.e. without taking food and energy prices into account, is expected to be 2.6 percent this year (December: 2.4 percent).
