On March 23, the Guangzhou Public Resources Trading Center issued a notice on the adjustment of the price of Beijing Tongrentang Xihuang Pills (Natural Bezoar) by the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group’s procurement platform, and adjusted the online purchase price of Xihuang Pills to 1,180 yuan (specification: 3gx10 bottles).
Times Finance reported on March 25 that the lowest price of the product in 2021 is around 488 yuan.
For the news of the price increase, Times Finance and Economics asked Tongrentang Technology, which produces Xihuang Pills, for verification. The relevant staff said that they have not received any notice of price increase in a certain region or as a whole. “We are mainly responsible for production. The sales standard has always been to distribute to first-level dealers. The price adjustment of individual sales may vary, and there may be fluctuations.”
Tongrentang Zhuhai Pharmacy said that Xihuang Pills are divided into three different specifications: 228 yuan, 472 yuan and 1416 yuan according to the difference between artificially cultivated bezoar and natural bezoar, and the number of grams.
According to reports, after interviewing many Tongrentang stores in Beijing, it was found that the current price of 10 bottles of Xihuang Pills (natural bezoar) is 1,180 yuan. This specification is priced at 630-750 yuan in flagship stores such as Dali Health Pharmacy and Dashenlin Pharmacy.
“The price increase has been a long time coming,” said a clerk at a Tongrentang store in Beijing.
A licensed Chinese pharmacist in a chain pharmacy said, “Natural bezoar and musk are becoming less and less, and what is rare is more expensive. The higher the cost, the more expensive the price.”
Pien Tze Huang, which also uses bezoar and musk as its main ingredients, was once sold for a thousand yuan last year.
Bezoar and musk are rare and precious medicinal materials. According to data from the Southwest Securities Research Report, the annual production of musk in the mainland is about 600 kilograms, but the demand is about 1,000 kilograms. The imbalance between supply and demand has led to the continued increase in the price of natural musk.
According to data compiled by Du Xiangyang, chief analyst of the pharmaceutical industry of Southwest Securities, the prices of precious medicinal materials such as Niuhuang have been skyrocketing in recent years. In 2017, the price of 1g of natural bezoar was 200 yuan. After only 4 years, the price of 1g of natural bezoar was about 400 yuan. Natural musk has risen from 150 yuan/g 12 years ago to about 400 yuan/g currently. Based on this calculation, the price per kilogram is 400,000 to 500,000 yuan or more, and the high-quality bezoar is even more than one million yuan, more than gold.
Tongrentang Xihuang Pill is mainly composed of bezoar, musk, frankincense and myrrh. Pharyngeal cancer, etc.
