The race of La Stampa, web users jump: Gedi the most widely read publisher

Internet consumption is growing and the search for online news is growing. The Audiweb data put it on paper, from which it emerges that in March 44.2 million people surfed the net: this is, in essence, 75% of the population over two years old. And again: the time spent on the web, between PCs, smartphones and tablets, reached 67 hours and 14 minutes overall per person. Just over two hours a day.

In particular, among the main categories of sites and most consulted mobile applications there is growth for online News which gained 2.2%: numbers that reward the La Stampa site which in March recorded a growth of 4% in March on February – therefore more than the reference sector, especially if compared to the -10% recorded by Corriere della Sera in the same month. A progression that drove the audience of the Gedi group which grew by 10% and thus became the most widely read publisher on the internet in Italy. A growth to which the record increase in online subscriptions to the La Stampa site contributes significantly, which between April 2021 and April 2022 recorded an increase of 50%.

The new podcasts created by the La Stampa companies contribute to driving the positive trend of the online edition: from the daily point on the war in Ukraine, by Angelo Di Marino to the weekly appointment with “La vita com’è” by Andrea Malaguti up to newborn “DayTime” by Annalisa Cuzzocrea on the most important facts to know at the beginning of the day.

The digital package is also enriched by daily newsletters: from “Sotto la Mole” dedicated to Turin to “La cucina della Stampa” by director Massimo Giannini with reading ideas from the newspaper. The following data are those on the diffusion on newsstands. In the last month, La Stampa settled at 69,370 copies (-2.6%), a decrease lower than that of the market. In the same period, Corriere della Sera fell by 2.7% to 153,090 while Repubblica by 21.9% to 87,645.

Overall, in Italy, the total digital audience on the average day reached 37.6 million individuals aged two and over, online for 2 hours and 33 minutes per person and on the average day in March 63.9% of the population aged two and over, corresponding to 62.1% of women (18.8 million) and 65.7% of men (18.9 million).

More and more users who surf from mobile: 79.7% of the population between 18 and 74, on the average day, used a smartphone or tablet online. The most active are the 35-44 year olds who for 84.7% surf from mobile.
