After months, Bé De Meyer breaks the silence about her ex Eddy Snelders. In an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws she talks about her guilt, her damaged confidence and the fact that she never knew or saw anything.

At the beginning of this week, our sister newspaper ‘Het Nieuwsblad’ published the news about the videos that Eddy Snelders made in the public swimming pool in Brasschaat. The facts date from 2016. According to well-informed sources, Snelders allegedly placed his mobile phone at the bottom of the changing rooms to take nude images of unsuspecting visitors. The images were discovered when investigators seized his mobile phone and several other digital carriers following a complaint of exhibitionism in December last year.
Facts that Snelders’ then wife had absolutely no knowledge of, she tells HLN. That Snelders was already convicted of public indecency at the age of eighteen? That news also fell like a bomb. Just like the news about the hidden cameras in their house and holiday home in the Ardennes that broke in December.
“Hellooooo? (fiercely) No, so. Like I’m stupid and naive. Then I would never have stayed with him for so long,” says stylist Bé De Meyer, who was a couple with Snelders for sixteen years. “Every time it’s super painful when something leaks in the news and I fall out of the sky. Some people ask me why I never said anything. (rolls her eyes) How could I say anything? And what? I didn’t know anything. I have never seen it myself and never suspected anything.”
Responsible
The two shared joys and sorrows for sixteen years. The two tied the knot in 2022. De Meyer says that she really liked Snelders and was proud to be his partner. The facts had a deep impact on the stylist, who also felt responsible. Because she was the entrance to her friends and family.
“Without me he would not have known them and therefore not filmed them. It keeps me awake at night: how could that happen? How could I not have seen that?” she tells HLN.
The investigation into Eddy Snelders for exhibitionism and voyeurism is still ongoing, but is said to be almost complete. At least twenty victims have already been identified. The Brasschaat swimming pool also filed a complaint against Snelders for voyeurism this week.
“My client has known the facts of voyeurism from the beginning,” lawyer Sanne De Clerck responded earlier. “He emphatically denies having specifically or deliberately targeted minors. The research doesn’t show that either. My client did not know in advance who would be filmed in the changing room. Mr Snelders is nevertheless fully aware of the seriousness of the facts and is intensively engaged in therapy in the context of recovery,” said the lawyer.
