The approximately 800 square meter hall was fully engulfed in flames. The situation has now calmed down. The embers have probably been extinguished. Larger flames could be seen at times. The neighboring buildings are now also safe and the fire department is withdrawing. However, a fire watch remains on site to ensure the fire does not reignite.

Hall was in danger of collapsing

A problem during the extinguishing work: the steel beams in the hall were in danger of collapsing due to the heat. That’s why the fire department could only extinguish the fire from outside. She therefore filled the hall with firefighting foam so that the steel beams could cool down.

Paint from paint booths also ignited in the hall, meaning larger flames and a lot of smoke were visible at times. Several burned-out cars can also be seen inside. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire. The workshop employees were able to get to safety before the fire broke out.

Residents should close doors and windows

The emergency services had to be particularly careful when extinguishing the fire. “Gas bottles keep exploding,” reported fire department spokesman Christian Schmücker. He asks all residents to close doors and windows because of the unpleasant smell. There should be no toxic substances in the air, but the smell of burning can be felt in the district.

In this car repair shop, customers can lend a hand. Auto + Hobby is written on the signs that were in flames until recently.
