Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , , and sectors propelled shares higher; meanwhile, losses in the , , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, it rose 0.27%, while the index lost 0.38%, while the index fell 1.29%.
The best performers of the session were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE: ), which rose 3.91% or 8.87 points to trade at 235.55 at the close. Meanwhile, 3M Company (NYSE:) was up 2.76% or 2.71 points to end at 101.00 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:) was up 2.74% or 8.95 points to 335.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:), which fell 3.35% or 7.12 points to trade at 205.73 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ) declined 3.09% or 10.30 points to end at 323.38 and Merck & Co (NYSE: ) was down 1.27% or 1.40 points to 108.61 at the close.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 8.43% to 13.12; Whirlpool (NYSE: ), which was up 6.37% at the close at 145.98; Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: ), which rose 6.07%, closing at 86.91.
Worst performing stock Campbell Soup ( Campbell Soup ) (NYSE: ) finally fell 8.91% to close at 46.08 in late trading; Intuit Group (NASDAQ: ) fell 5.83% to close at 422.36; In addition, AMD (NASDAQ: ) fell 5.15% to close at 117.83.
The top performers on the Nasdaq Composite were MGO Global Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 84.80% to settle at 2.31; Farmer Brothers Co. (NASDAQ: ), which was up 70.47% to settle at 3.29; Industry (NASDAQ: ) rose 21.81% to trade at 0.83 at the close.
The worst performers were Polarityte Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 34.30% to 0.29 in late trade, Couchbase Inc (NASDAQ: ) which lost 28.12% to settle at 15.98 and Recruiter.Com Group Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 27.53% %, the closing price was 0.28.
1,967 stocks on the New York Stock Exchange rose, exceeding the number of stocks that closed down—1,016. At the same time, 82 stocks did not rise or fall, basically flat; 2,095 stocks on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange rose, and 1,466 stocks fell. 144 individual stocks were largely unchanged.

A measure of implied volatility for S&P 500 options fell 0.14% to 13.94, a three-year low.
The August gold futures option contract fell 1.28%, or 25.35 points, to $1,956.15. For the rest of the futures, the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract rose 1.09% (0.78 points), quoted at $72.52, while the August London Brent crude oil futures contract rose 0.77% (0.59), trading at $76.88.
EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.04%, and the exchange rate was 1.07; at the same time, USD/JPY rose by 0.37%, quoting 140.15.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.01% to 104.08.
