U.S. Equities Close Higher on Tuesday Led by Tech and Healthcare Sectors
On Tuesday, U.S. equities closed higher as gains in the tech and healthcare sectors propelled shares higher. At the close in New York, the S&P 500 gained 0.69%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.20%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index rose 1.59%.
Some of the best performers of the session included Verizon Communications Inc, American Express, and Caterpillar Inc, which saw gains of 2.85%, 2.54%, and 1.62%, respectively. On the other hand, Walmart Inc, UnitedHealth Group, and Boeing Co were among the worst performers of the session.
Globe Life Inc, General Electric Co, and Danaher Corporation were the best performing stocks on the S&P 500, while LKQ Corp., MSCI Inc, and Nucor Corp struggled and saw significant declines.
On the Nasdaq Composite Index, Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd, NewGenIvf Group Ltd, and Haichuan Securities were the best performing stocks, while Abeona Therapeutics Inc, Greenwave Technology Solutions Inc, and Lichen China Ltd were among the worst performers.
Implied volatility, which is a measure of S&P 500 options, fell 7.38% to 15.69. In the futures market, gold futures fell while WTI crude oil futures rose.
In the currency market, EUR/USD did not see much movement, while USD/JPY fell slightly. The U.S. dollar index futures also recorded a decline.
