Volkswagen announced the introduction of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based conversational assistant in its models equipped with the IDA voice assistant during CES 2024 in Las Vegas. The German automotive giant, following in the footsteps of Mercedes-Benz, then dives into the world of ChatGPT, a creation of OpenAI, which stands out as one of the most advanced chatbots in the current technological scenario, promising to change the vehicle-driver interaction .
Starting in the second quarter of this year, Europe will see the debut of the AI-powered chatbot, developed in collaboration with software company Cerence and based on the Chat Pro product. Models including ID.7, ID.4 , ID.5, ID EVs .3, as well as Tiguan, Passat and also the new Golf, (which will be revealed in the coming weeks) will be the first vehicles from the German giant to offer this experience.
Drivers will therefore be able to count on the AI chatbot to search for content dynamically while always keeping their hands firmly on the wheel. When the feature launches, owners of an enabled Volkswagen vehicle will continue to interact with the IDA voice assistant, which can be activated via the “Hello IDA” voice command or the button on the steering wheel. Volkswagen emphasizes that ChatGPT does not gain access to any vehicle data. Questions and answers are deleted immediately to ensure the
highest possible level of data protection.
