Explosive figures from Volkswagen: While the car manufacturer has to save billions and urgently wants to sell more cars, the production plants across the group are currently only at 70 percent capacity. Christian Vollmer, a member of the brand board of the main Volkswagen brand responsible for production and logistics, admitted this on Wednesday at a works meeting at the headquarters in Wolfsburg.
The current value of 70 percent is far too low, explained Vollmer, who, as a factory expert, is a member of the so-called Extended Group Management. VW must aim for 100 percent, better yet 110 percent. This mathematically utopian target number results from the – theoretical – possibility of special and additional shifts, as VW was able to do in boom years. However, the times of stormy demand for new cars are over.
