From a purely ecological point of view, there is no way around it. The environmental impact of the production, distribution and disposal of the products is immense. It will become easier for consumers to have their devices repaired. As already mentioned, a large part of the repair costs arise due to the high wage and travel costs. In this respect, it remains to be seen what effect the new spare parts prices will ultimately have on the amount of repair costs. In addition, there is the Ecodesign Directive, which states that spare parts for certain product segments must be available for seven years. However, practice has shown in recent years that if manufacturers do not have spare parts, they cannot obtain them and end up replacing the device at their own expense instead of repairing it. What I mean to say is: We don’t just flip a switch and suddenly we can repair any washing machine. The feasibility will not be affordable in the short term. There are numerous challenges.
