ROME – Just under half a million dollars, 475,000 to be precise, for a BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupé. Not just any BMW, but the last of the 99 customized models by Jeff Koons, an icon of the neo-pop style and one of the richest artists in the world. Well, after the numerous offers arrived from all over the planet, the hammer of Tash Perrin, vice president and auctioneer of Christie’s, closed the sale to the applause of the guests at the dinner that was held in the main hall of Christie’s. All proceeds will go to the International Center for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), which Jeff Koons has personally dealt with for over two decades.
“From the choice of colors to the overall appearance and use of materials, my car has a superhero air,” explains Jeff Koons. “Donating the proceeds to ICMEC and literally saving children’s lives is a superhero feat, now more than ever. I am thrilled that the auction was such a great success. It should encourage and involve as many people as possible, appreciating the great work foundations do globally to make the world a better place ”.
The creation of this particular BMW, christened “THE 8 X JEFF KOONS”, represents one of the most extensive customized production processes ever undertaken by the Bavarian house. The external and internal liveries are authentic artistic creations, with graphics that combine 11 different colors.
