A good show is not afraid of the late star version of “Panfusov” ignites fans of the “Continuous Classic” Yue Opera Invitational Exhibition kicks off
Hangzhou Daily News “Officials, you are like the moon in the sky, and a wife is like a star on the edge of the moon…” On the evening of July 2, along with a familiar melody, the Yue Opera “Panfusuofu” was staged at the Butterfly Theater. This performance also kicked off the “Continuous Classic” Baiyue Cultural and Creative Second Yue Opera Excellent Repertoire Invitational Exhibition.
The performance was originally scheduled to open in March, but due to the impact of the epidemic, it was postponed to the summer. However, a good show is not afraid of being late, and the enthusiasm of the fans is still like fire. For the audience who have not entered the theater for a long time to listen to the opera, this feast of Yue opera is like the rain after a long drought. That night, many audience members came to the theater an hour early to scan the code, check the temperature, watch the exhibition, and wait for the show… Among them, there were old fans with white hair. When they were waiting, they were in groups of three or five. A group photo was taken in front of the poster; there were also young people who came to watch the show. Their white T-shirts were printed with the words “XX University”, and they often stopped in front of the cultural and creative products displayed in the theater hall.
“Panvsov” is one of the classic repertoires most familiar to Yue Opera audiences. This old play follows the traditional form of performance, and retains a set of routines such as introductions, set poems, and self-reporting.

The heroine, Yan Lanzhen, is played by Xie Qunying, the famous Hua Dan of Hangzhou Yue Theater and winner of the Plum Blossom Award. Xie Qunying is the direct disciple of Jin Caifeng, the founder of Jinpai art, and is recognized as a “golden voice”. She portrayed the role of Yan Lanzhen, who dared to love, dare to hate, love and hate, and was cute and individual, which made the audience burst into laughter and applaud.
Playing opposite Xie Qunying is Wu Fenghua, a well-known student of Shaoxing Xiaobaihua and winner of “Second Plum”. Just last month, she suffered an accidental injury during a performance that left two fractured ribs. This time, Wu Fenghua acted with an injury, and everyone around her sweated for her. On the stage, she endured the pain and completed the performance without any compromise. The audience under the stage was “kept in the dark” and did not see any difference.
After the performance, the fans were reluctant to leave, and rushed to the front of the stage to shout in unison, “Thank you lady! Ah Hua! You guys are amazing!”
This exciting show is just the beginning. Next, there will be four classic dramas including “Lu Wenlong”, “Lu You and Tang Wan”, “Butterfly Dream” and “Meng Lijun”.
It is worth mentioning that the Butterfly Theater has launched a welfare activity of “changing stories for dramas”. The audience brings the story between themselves and the opera to the theater staff at the Butterfly Theater Ticketing Center at No. 59 Shuguang Road (text manuscripts are also available), and they can exchange for 80 yuan for any performance tickets. Many fans have successfully redeemed tickets for the show. Currently, the activity is still going on.
