ROME – Also in the first quarter of 2022 the registrations of motorhomes in Italy continue to grow. In the period between January 1st and March 31st, the sector recorded an increase of 9.6% compared to registrations in the first three months of last year (data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility). According to the findings of the Caravan and Motorhome Manufacturers Association (Apc), van or campervan motorhomes represent 42.30% of the total vehicles registered in the first quarter of 2022, while in 2021 they were 39.02% on the total number of campers registered in the same period. This increase, according to the APC, testifies to the preference that Italians are giving to campervans, which are extremely compact vehicles (many models are just over 5 meters in length), with multifunctional and versatile characteristics, and which can be used as a second car. On the other hand, the on-board comfort offered by today’s vans is decidedly high, thanks to the technologies and materials very similar to those used for the construction of more traditional campers, that is semi-integrated, motorhomes and overcabs.
An even more substantial increase is recorded in registrations of caravans (also called caravans) which in the first quarter of 2022 recorded a growth of 62.2%, compared to the same quarter of 2021, even if the numbers are still far from those. obtained in the countries beyond the Alps. “The constant increase in registrations makes us think that even Italians, as are their French and German” cousins ”, are becoming aware that the camper and caravan are the ideal tools that allow you to enjoy your free time at a high level of comfort, close to nature – underlined Simone Niccola, president of the Caravan and RV Manufacturers Association – Italians have a new perception of the camper: a modern tool for leisure time, technologically advanced, suitable not only for holidays but also for proximity tourism in all seasons “.
