The State Administration of Radio and Television in China has officially released the “2023 Ratings Annual Report” through the China Audiovisual Big Data (CVB), a big data system for comprehensive evaluation of radio and television program ratings. The report outlines significant developments and achievements in the radio and television industry for the year 2023.

One of the key highlights of the annual ratings report is the industry’s commitment to addressing complex operation issues and implementing special management of TV “matryoshka” charging. These efforts are aimed at making television more convenient and accessible for the masses, resulting in a continuous growth in the average daily activity rate of live channel users across the country. The report emphasizes that these initiatives have effectively promoted the recovery of live channel user activity rate.

The national radio and television system is reported to have focused on high-quality development, strengthening mainstream public opinion, and deeply cultivating high-quality creations. Notably, 467,000 hours of TV programs were broadcast on star channels throughout the year, with a wide variety of themes that sparked a viewing craze among audiences.

According to the report, news programs, TV shows, and documentaries were the top three festival types in terms of broadcast time, with 65,000 hours, 151,000 hours, and 57,000 hours respectively. These programs also achieved high total audience reach rates of 90.990%, 90.835%, and 82.102% respectively. Literature and art programs and children’s programs ranked 4th and 5th among all types of programs, with 52,000 hours and 45,000 hours of broadcast time, and total audience reach rates of 88.006% and 73.703% respectively.

Additionally, public service advertisements were broadcast for 14,000 hours throughout the year, with users watching an average of 1,021 times. These figures demonstrate the significant impact and reach of the radio and television industry in China for the year 2023.
