Contemporary Christian singer Mandisa, who rose to fame after appearing on “American Idol” and winning a Grammy for her 2013 album ‘Overcomer,’ has tragically passed away at the age of 47.
According to a representative for the singer, Mandisa was found dead at her home in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday. The cause of her death is still unknown at this time.
Born Mandisa Lynn Hundley near Sacramento, California, Mandisa began singing in church and found success after placing ninth on “American Idol” in 2006. Host Ryan Seacrest praised her as a “great spirit” on the show.
Mandisa released her debut album “True Beauty” in 2007, which earned a Grammy nomination for best contemporary pop and gospel album. She went on to release five more albums, including a Christmas album.
In 2014, Mandisa won a Grammy for best contemporary Christian music album for “Overcomer,” her fifth album. She was known for openly discussing her struggles with depression and even published a memoir titled “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy” in 2022.
