«Every day we use at least eight cosmetics that accompany us in fundamental gestures related to hygiene, self-care, well-being, prevention and protection. It is important for consumers to know the ingredients that make up these products, but it is not always easy to identify the correct information, particularly on the web. One year after the debut of the Cosmile Europe database, the App of the same name is an easy and immediate access point to consult this important source, which presents itself as a verified and scientifically supported reference for all citizens”.
Thus Benedetto Lavino, president of Cosmetica Italia – the national association of cosmetic companies which brings together around 640 companies, from SMEs to multinationals, representing 90% of the sector’s turnover which, according to preliminary data, reached 15 billion euros in 2023 – comments on the arrival, also in Italian, of the Cosmile Europe database App.
The database, created by Cosmetics Europe (European Cosmetics Industry Association), contains information on approximately 30 thousand ingredients used in cosmetic formulations: from properties to functionality, from origin to the main cosmetics in which to find them.
The launch of the App, which from today with Italian is available in 9 different languages, was aimed at making information even more accessible. To learn more about a specific ingredient, simply scan the list of ingredients on the cosmetic packaging, manually search for the single ingredient or scan the product barcode.
Everyone can keep track of the ingredients of interest on the App, for example in the case of a known allergy. Starting from the scanned products, it is then possible to create a list of favorites in order to quickly consult their composition. The Insights section also provides focuses on various topics that are often at the center of questions regarding cosmetics and their ingredients.
