Director Peter Chan Discusses “Jiaoyuan Lane” Being Shortlisted for Cannes

Director Peter Chan shared his excitement about his new film “Jiaoyuan Lane” being shortlisted for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The director attended an event on April 12 and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the movie on such a global platform.

“I am honored to be able to communicate with friends from all over the world in this special year – the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France,” said Chan. “It is also a story of a special era. I am also looking forward to communicating with audiences from different parts of the world and sharing this movie.”

Chan also revealed that the film is set to be released later this year, following its screening at Cannes in May. However, the specific release date is yet to be determined, as the director mentioned that the cast members, including Zhang Ziyi, are currently busy and further discussions are needed.

Speaking about collaborating with Zhang Ziyi, Chan praised the actress for her dedication to the role over the years. “It has been 9 years from 2015 to this year. She has always been committed to this role,” he said. “Ziyi is very rational when talking about the script with me, but she forgot as soon as she stood in front of the camera. She acted with sensibility, talking about the script and being in front of the camera. She seemed to be a different person in front of the camera. This is something I haven’t seen in so many years.”

Fans of both Peter Chan and Zhang Ziyi can look forward to seeing their collaboration on the big screen when “Jiaoyuan Lane” makes its debut later this year.
