Today (May 9), “Doctor Who” officially tweeted that the 14th Doctor will be played by “Eric” Ncuti Gatwa in “Sex Education”. Gatwa said he was honored to play the 14th Doctor, but also very pressured.
He said: “This show and the character mean so much to many people around the world, including me, and my first 13 were incredibly talented individuals who handled this unique responsibility and privilege with great enthusiasm. “I’m going to do my best to do that, and it feels like a dream come true to work with Russell T Davies.”
Shuti Gatwa, 29, is the first black actor to star in the Doctor Who series. The 13th Doctor, Judy Whitaker, will play the Doctor for the last time in this fall special. The show’s executives have also changed, with old series acquaintance Russell T. Davies returning next year to replace Chris Chibnall.
