“Director Denis Villeneuve Reveals ‘Dune: Part Two’ May Be His Last in the Series”
The highly anticipated sci-fi sequel “Dune: Part Two” is set to star Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, but director Denis Villeneuve recently revealed that it may be his last film in the “Dune” series.
In a recent interview with Time magazine, Villeneuve shared, “‘Dune Messiah’ will probably be my last movie in the ‘Dune’ series.” This comes as a surprise to fans who were hoping for more installments of the beloved franchise.
Last August, Villeneuve had expressed his desire to create a third part of “Dune”, adapting from the second work of Frank Herbert’s original novel series “Dune Messiah”. However, Warner Bros. Pictures has not agreed to produce it yet. The original novel “Dune” has a total of six episodes, but Villeneuve admitted that the subsequent sequels of the novel were too esoteric, so his personal adaptation plan is to stop at a trilogy.
Despite the potential end of the “Dune” series for Villeneuve, the director has several other film projects in the pipeline. After the release of “Dune: Part Two”, he may turn his focus to directing and adapting Stacy Schiff’s personal biographical novel “Cleopatra: A Life”, as well as an adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s science fiction work “Rendezvous with Rama”.
With “Dune: Part Two” expected to captivate audiences, Villeneuve’s future projects promise to be equally exciting. Fans can look forward to seeing the director’s unique vision brought to life in both “Dune: Part Two” and his forthcoming works.
