Exploring Italian Design Classics: Gucci’s ‘Design Ancora’ Project

Gucci Unveils New Project “Design Ancora” in Collaboration with Sabato De Sarno

Following the success of the documentary “Who Is Sabato De Sarno? A Gucci Story”, Gucci has introduced a new project titled “Design Ancora”. This initiative, led by creative director Sabato De Sarno and co-curated with Michela Pelizzari of P:S, aims to showcase and celebrate classic Italian designs.

The brand will host an immersive exhibition at its flagship store in Milan, displaying five specially-made replicas of iconic Italian pieces. These include “Storet” storage cabinet by Nanda Vigo for Acerbis, “Clessidra rug” carpet by Piero Portaluppi transformed by cc-tapis, “Parola” lamp by Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni for FontanaArte, “Le Mura” sofa by Mario Bellini for Tacchini, and the “Opachi” vase by Tobia Scarpa for Venini.

Michela Pelizzari emphasized the importance of promoting both past and new classics, highlighting the craftsmanship of Italian masters. These exhibits represent the golden age of Italian design and showcase the relationship between designers, brands, and craftsmanship.

Architect Guillermo Santomà, known for his innovative approach to design, explained the unconventional layout of the exhibition. By breaking away from traditional display methods, the exhibit challenges viewers to focus on form, texture, and tone rather than function.

Gucci’s “Design Ancora” project marks a new chapter in the brand’s creative direction, embracing both heritage and innovation. The exhibition is open to the public at the Via Montenapoleone store in Milan, inviting visitors to explore the intersection of art, design, and fashion.

For more information and to experience the exhibit firsthand, interested individuals are encouraged to visit Gucci’s flagship store in Milan.
