Five reasons to see Abel Pintos’ new show (and two more shows in Athens)

The Buenos Aires native performed for about two and a half hours before 2,500 people who sang his songs and applauded him every chance they had. But in addition, he presented to that enthusiastic audience a new show in which several elements stood out.

Below, a review of the highlights of a concert that will repeat performances this Thursday and this Friday.

The screen. Of the width of the entire stage, it was essential to enhance the experience of a stadium show for a few. After massive presentations in this square, being able to see Pintos in a closer context is already a novelty. If we add to that the visual resource present in all the songs (with textures, colors, effects), the combo is complete. There is a before and after of this Abel very connected with what can be seen behind him and to his sides.

The list. There were more than 30 songs in almost two and a half hours and, apart from the moments in which Pintos spoke to the people, there was practically no respite. In the image and likeness of Luna Park, the review included several heavyweights of his work (How I miss you, Of only living, Golden dream or Motivos) but also gave rise to some notable absences (Without beginning or end, Once thousand), versions and more than one dance step up and down the stage. Some endearing zamba was missing, but even so, the one that passed through Córdoba was an all-terrain Abel.

The band. Only five musicians (plus the participation of a saxophonist and a harmonica player) supported Pintos, who had absolute centrality on stage. As the absolute axis of the show, the singer made it clear that he is the main figure. However, the versatility of his band never ceases to surprise. Even from the shadows, his companions confirmed his share in a proposal that seems to contemplate every sound and every moment. The hand in hand between the Pintos brothers, priceless.

The dance. If in other contexts (such as folk festivals) Abel adapts his repertoire according to the occasion, what was seen in Athens was the concert with which Pintos will tour the country. It is clear that in this new version of the singer, dancing occupies a more prominent place. The final segment of the show confirms this and delivers a melting pot of Latin rhythms that has its corollary in a great quartet. Let me miss everything, his collaboration with Luck Ra, made the audience explode and was the greatest peak of ecstasy of the show.

Abel, always Abel. Years pass but his sensitivity seems intact. And there is no greater capital in a musician’s career than the way in which he connects with his audience. Every time he spoke, Pintos struck a chord. He spoke about the new stadium, which was an old teenage dream, he welcomed those who saw it for the first time and thanked his audience once again for trusting the proposal and making the effort to be in the place. His vocal and musical delivery, enhanced again by his empathy and his closeness to his fans.
