Francos criticized the university march and questioned the rector of the UBA: “He is not qualified”

The national government, through Guillermo Francos, launched harsh criticism against the next university mobilization scheduled for Tuesday, while severely questioning the rector of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Ricardo Gelpi, for suggesting an eventual closure of the educational institution.

The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, expressed his disagreement with the measure of force called by the university sector, arguing that ““Argentina is going through a moment of great austerity in the public sector” and emphasized that “adjustment and austerity must reach everyone.”in reference to the budgetary demands of universities.

Given the claim for the cut of funds, Franco explained that the Government distributes resources among the different areas and assured that “The most humble and needy sectors of the population are served.” In addition, he called for understanding of the current situation and for everyone to make their contribution.

The head of the Ministry of the Interior strongly criticized the rector of the UBA, Ricardo Gelpi, for his statements about the possibility of closing the university due to lack of funds. «If the rector of the UBA believes that the solution is to close the university, he is not qualified to be in charge of it»said Francos.

Likewise, the minister attacked the management of public universities in recent years, announcing an audit in the sector. «It is known that many universities have been used for political purposes. “You see who manages them, the number of employees they have and you constantly hear who are in them,” he added.

The tension between the Executive and the university authorities has escalated in recent days. The situation deepened when the Ministry of Human Capital had announced an alleged agreement between the government and the university sector, but it was denied. The National Interuniversity Council reported that they are waiting for an invitation to dialogue and ratified the march on the 23rd.

The mobilization in support of the Public University is scheduled for next Tuesday and will seek to protest the cut of funds in all universities. A rally is expected from 3:30 p.m. and a central event at 6 p.m. in front of the Casa Rosada.

Caputo also questioned the university march on Tuesday, April 23

The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, criticized the university march for more budget that will be held this Tuesday. He did so by responding in X to a post by liberal economist Gustavo Lazzari.

Dear menhaden, Politics is a business for many, not a public service. The tantrum is the same as that of other sectors that see “their business” affected. Everything the President says is true. People are a thousand priorities for some politicians. The State is all “boxes”, and if you want to fight that they tell you that “You don’t understand the political game.” But if people continue to support us we will be able to change it. Definitely. Thank you for banking, even criticizing when you think it is necessary,” Caputo wrote.
