French national treasure perfume master Jean-Claude Ellena recently visited Taiwan to showcase his latest fragrance creations to the public. Known for his minimalist and elegant fragrance style, Ellena shared that his inspiration comes from the white space technique in Chinese ink paintings.

During his visit, Ellena, who has been in the perfume industry for over 60 years and has created more than 80 perfumes, discussed how his understanding of Chinese ink painting and white space techniques has influenced his fragrance style.

ā€œChinese ink painting is about the white space. This white space speaks volumes. My perfumes are directly inspired by the simplicity and importance of nature and flowers,ā€ said Ellena.

The French perfumer, who previously worked as the exclusive perfumer for HermĆØs for 12 years, revealed that his latest fragrance creation features peony, a flower that holds significance in both Eastern and Western cultures.

ā€œPeony is a well-known flower in China, Taiwan, and Japan. It is the flower of the emperor and the flower of love. I have roses and peonies in my garden, and I particularly like peonies. Thatā€™s enough for the perfume to capture the essence of peony,ā€ Ellena added.

With a growing demand for diverse fragrance choices, Ellena emphasized the importance of taking time to choose a perfume that suits oneā€™s preferences. He advised individuals to test out different fragrances before making a purchase to find their perfect scent.

Ellenaā€™s visit to Taiwan was met with enthusiasm from attendees, including pianist Lin Yi and artist Yu-Ning Tsao. The director of the French Institute in Taiwan expressed excitement for the potential of French perfume technology to foster cultural exchanges between Taiwan and France.

The rare appearance of the legendary French perfumer in Taiwan marked a significant event in the world of perfume, showcasing the cross-cultural influence and innovation that continues to shape the industry.
