From Treccani comes the first international encyclopedia of contemporary art

He arrives Contemporary art, the first internationally specialized encyclopedia on the subject published by Treccani. The work was presented today, Thursday 13 January, as part of the series of meetings at the Maxxi Books, promoted by the National Museum of 21st Century Arts. At 6.30 pm in the museum’s auditorium, Massimo Bray – general director Treccani, together with Valeria Della Valle and Vincenzo Trione – Scientific Director of the Encyclopedia Treccani Contemporary Art, with the writer Emanuele Trevi, told about this extraordinary work, introduced by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi – director of Maxxi Art, while Giovanna Melandri – president of the Maxxi Foundation – made a remote greeting. The presentation is part of a collaboration between the two institutions, which gave life to the Treccani Arte / Maxxi project, born in 2020 from an idea by Treccani Arte and curated by Maxxi Arte, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the National Museum of Arts. of the 21st century through a dedicated production of 10 limited edition works, commissioned to as many Italian and international artists whose works have marked the history of the Museum. Alfredo Jaar, Remo Salvadori and Nico Vascellari the artists chosen to start this initiative which has already met with great appreciation. The next upcoming editions involve the artists Bruna Esposito with the work Farsighted (end of January 2022) and, in spring, Cao Fei, protagonist at the Maxxi of his first solo show in Italy (until 8 May 2022). “Contemporary art of the twentieth and thirteenth centuries has substantially changed its means of production and its meanings – explains Massimo Bray – adapting to the times and our way of life, to interpret the demands of the present, identifying spaces and moments of reflection and of confrontation on the great issues of our time. Its “liquidity” and the dense network of relationships that it interweaves with our social, economic and cultural life make it difficult to investigate in an orderly and exhaustive way. The work Arte Contemporanea therefore aims to return a possible architecture of the material, a reasoned collection and a choral story of the major artistic experiences of our age ».
