Giorgio Armani, in Dubai in conjunction with Expo for a new stage of his itinerant and aperiodic One Night Only, declares: “This is an incredible metropolis: born almost out of nothing, it evolves and changes at a frenzied pace, and has an enthralling energy “. Dubai is change; the victory of the building will on a desert land. Still in all this change, however, the Burj Khalifa, the building leaning out of a spire soaring towards the sky that houses the Armani Hotel, whose ten years are celebrated, remains the tallest tower in the city, and perhaps in the world. Armani has long found a thriving market in the Middle East, and Dubai in particular. Power of a style made of linearity and synthesis, full of precious touches.
One Night Only Dubai reaffirms this special bond with a fashion show that is a medley of the men’s and women’s collections for spring / summer 2022, stretched in a glittering gloss of Privé haute couture, which is accompanied by the singing performance of Chris Martin, leader of Coldplay. A great event, but conceived in a responsible way.
“The discovery of sustainability surprised us all, and we cannot ignore it”, Armani specifies, who opted for a production that is as light as possible: recyclable materials, LED lights, hybrid or electric cars for guests, and carbon emissions compensated by investments in kind, as guests, including Sharon Stone, have still flown from all corners of the globe. It is a first step, certainly, but well considered: a way to think about a different future.
