Wendy Carranza, a Honduran migrant, was brutally murdered in a criminal attack on a group of migrants in Sonora, Mexico. Wendy was hoping to reunite with her husband and eldest son in the United States, and she was traveling with her 15-month-old son, Liam, when the tragic incident occurred.

Her husband had already managed to cross into the United States with their eldest son in November 2023, and Wendy’s ultimate goal was to be reunited with her family. She deeply loved her family and expressed how she wanted her home to be together, which is why she undertook the perilous journey with little Liam.

Tragically, Wendy fell victim to a violent attack on the night of February 15, 2024, along with other migrants traveling through Sonora, Mexico. This attack resulted in the death of a young child and injuries to 10 individuals. Wendy sustained serious injuries and succumbed to them on Saturday, February 17.

Fortunately, little Liam was unharmed and was placed in the custody of the Mexican prosecutor’s office in Sonora. Wendy’s family is currently working on arrangements to repatriate her body back to Honduras, and they have set up an account for donations to cover the funeral expenses.

Wendy was a beloved member of her community in Victoria, Yoro, and her tragic death has left many deeply saddened. She was described as a nice, helpful person who often brought laughter to those around her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The news of Wendy’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the Honduran migrant community and has shed light on the dangers faced by those seeking a better life away from their home country. Her story serves as a sobering reminder of the risks involved in migration.
