MADRID. Manuel Borja-Villel (Burriana, Spain. 1957) has been the director of the Reina Sofia museum since 2008. And he is making his mark on the leading contemporary art museum in Spain. The last act of this long process of renewal is the new layout of the permanent collection: not just a restyling, but a museographic revolution that affects the “canon” of Spanish art and gives a voice to artists (especially women) and forgotten movements or deliberately marginalized from history.
