JW Anderson Unveils 2024 Autumn/Winter Collection Inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut’

Renowned fashion designer Jonathan Anderson has recently unveiled his latest 2024 autumn and winter series, showcasing a unique collaboration with 91-year-old Christine Kubrick, the wife of legendary director Stanley Kubrick. The show, inspired by the 1999 suspense thriller “Eyes Wide Shut,” features a stunning collection of apparel items that pay tribute to Christine Kubrick’s artwork.

Anderson, who heads his own brand JW Anderson, revealed that he became fascinated by Christine Kubrick’s approach to painting artwork from her husband’s movies. This led him to visit her last summer to discuss the possibility of collaboration. The result is three knitted dresses adorned with Christine Kubrick’s female figures, as well as knitted sweaters featuring graphic designs inspired by her paintings of potted plants, car windshields, and her pet cat Polly.

The designer explained that the collaboration was a way to bring attention to Christine Kubrick’s quiet involvement in the film industry, stating “I thought it was an interesting idea to bring things to the forefront that don’t want to be seen.”

Apart from the collaboration with Christine Kubrick, the 2024 autumn and winter series also includes a range of other apparel items. Anderson has experimented with size, fit, and cut, creating wide-shouldered blazers, knitwear, long-sleeved shirts, overcoats, trousers, and more. The show notes describe the collection as “weird and abnormal home style, plush and soft cushions, everything is very different from the norm.”

The show marks an innovative and thoughtful collaboration between fashion and art, shining a light on the work of Christine Kubrick and reimagining it in a new and contemporary context. Jonathan Anderson’s unique approach to design continues to push boundaries and provoke thought within the fashion industry.
