Fabián Romero, a secondary school teacher in different locations in Sierras Chicas and also a blacksmith in the area, gave a long explanation of his version of the events. He said that on that Sunday, April 18, 2022, he arrived at her house after having worked in the workshop that was a few meters away and that he found her lying in the bathroom and with signs of having vomited, so he took her immediately. to the Emergency Hospital. This explanation failed in front of the judges who decided his sentence.

He alleged that the bruises on the woman’s body had been the result of a fall on a bicycle the day before the incident, when they both went to Cerro Champaquí.

“They attribute something to me that I did not do,” he told the Court and then added: “(Margarita’s) relatives are absolutely right to complain. I accompany him in pain and feeling. I also want to know what happened to Margarita. I am not a violent person, she never did anything to her.”

The defendant said that he always had “respect for gender issues” and then said that he once saved a neighbor’s life from a fire.

He explained that he met Margarita on a trip to Peru in 2019 and that they began to live together in 2021 when she came from Chile and settled in a home that they both rented on Ameghino Street at 100 Salsitrabajos, a few meters from Romero’s metallurgical workshop. and from his father’s house.

Regarding the harassment complaints made by students at the school where he worked as a physics teacher, he said that they were “lies” invented to harm him and remove him from his place as a teacher. Due to these complaints he had been removed from his position as a teacher for six months.
