Mercedes has chosen CES in Las Vegas, the largest consumer electronics fair, as the ideal venue to exhibit its most innovative proposals in terms of electrification: a series of advanced solutions to improve the efficiency and environmental compatibility of vehicles electrical.
Vision EQXX is the name of the slender sedan created by the Stuttgart technicians to summarize the best currently possible in terms of technologies applied to mobility. To reduce energy consumption, work has developed in different directions: aerodynamics, battery efficiency, reduction of all friction and maximum lightness, and the result is a car with the habitability of a medium sedan (wheelbase of 2 meters and 80) which weighs about 1750 kg with a Cx equal to 0.17 that can travel about 10 km while consuming only one kWh of energy. In total, the EQXX is able to travel an impressive 620 miles, almost a thousand kilometers, on a single charge. Enough, according to the German technicians, to get from New York to Cincinnati.
The battery pack is of the lithium-ion type but with a newly designed structure, where the elements are perfectly integrated and “compressed” in order to obtain an extraordinary energy density: 100 kWh of energy concentrated in half the volume of a comparable system used on the Mercedes EQS. The reduction of energy waste also concerns the redesign of the entire energy transmission chain, from the battery to the 150 kW motor, up to the wheels specially developed to obtain the minimum of rolling resistance.
In addition to extremely high efficiency, the EQXX concept also looks further ahead in sustainability and experiments with new construction solutions and the use of “bio” or recycled materials; the production processes have also been designed to minimize the waste of materials and energy and generally contain direct and related CO2 emissions.
For the development of the EQXX project, from the blank sheet to the realization of the prototype, only 18 months of work were sufficient thanks to the use of innovative calculation and modeling systems, also resorting to software used in the film industry and in videogames and putting in place network all the calculation and simulation centers around the world and in the availability of Mercedes.
The sophistication of the software and the use of artificial intelligence are also present in all the solutions inside the car, from the design of the light surfaces to the management of the 45-inch mega-screen that occupies the entire dashboard from one pillar to the other. up to the development of a very low consumption audio system with the same sound quality,
