On pointe and on wheels: a week full of dance in Milan

The annual appointment between the Ballet school of the Accademia della Scala directed by Frédéric Olivieri and the Small Theaterwhich hosts it (Largo Greppi, April 27-30, 26/33 euros, piccoloteatro.org or academialascala.it). The students of the Scaligera Academy try their hand every evening in a series of choreographies drawn from a neoclassical repertoire with strong contemporary connotations, which allow them to demonstrate the technical and interpretative levels achieved.

It starts with a “Presentation”, conceived by Olivieri himself to the notes of “Concerto for two violins and orchestra in D minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by: “Largo” by Matteo Levaggi, conceived in 2007 for the Ballet du Grand Theater de Genève to music by Šostakóvič and now integrated with the “Suite n. 1 in G major for cello solo “by Bach”; “Canone Allegro” that Valentino Zucchetti has specially designed for the Ballet School on the music of the “Concerto for violin and orchestra, op. 64 ”by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. To get to the end with “Serenade”, one of George Balanchine’s best-known ballets to Tchaikovsky’s music, reprized by Patricia Neary.

And an important appointment – of personal catwalk and tests of the levels of learning achieved – is also the almost contemporary one of students of the Ukrainian Academy of Ballet al Arcimboldi Theater (avenue of innovation 20, 30 April-1 May, 26.50 / 36.50, teatroarcimboldi.it): two titles of the most famous classical repertoire are performed here, “Sleeping beauty in the woods” and “Coppelia”. Alongside the young talents of the AUB, in “Sleeping Beauty” there will be Michal Krcmar, principal dancer of the Helsinki Opera House, and Violetta Keller, rising star of the same theater; for “Coppelia” the principal dancers of the Prague Opera Adam Zvonar and Alina Nanu.

This week Fog is traveling to his partner Teatro Out Off (via Mac Mahon 16, 16.50 euros, triennale.org) with two shows: today and tomorrow, April 27 and 28, “My Body Solo”, experimentation on the body and movement by Stefania Tansini.

Already protagonist of the 2021 season of Triennale Milano Teatro together with Silvia Calderoni with “Tutto Brucia”, the artist on Friday (11 am) will enrich the Milanese appointment with a free workshop entitled “My Body Workshop” (info and registrations on the triennale. org). On the 30th it was the turn, again at the Out Off, of “Swans Never Die”, a project that invites you to rethink “The death of the swan”, a milestone in the history of classical dance: Camilla Monga, Chiara Bersani, Philippe Kratz and Virna Toppi take turns to present their personal variations on the theme.

And a window dedicated to performing art and dance also opens the Carcano Theater: that on April 28 welcomes the event “Triple Bill(Corso di Porta Romana 63, 15 euros, teatrocarcano.it)show in three parts (“Feeling Good”, “Fine Lines”, “Set and Reset / Reset”) which is part of a project dedicated to the themes of accessibility in art and culture, where skilled and disabled artists work together in choreographies with a high emotional rate.
